Objectives of winter school

  • To provide students and alumni of health-related study programmes with up-to-date knowledge on the key SE Asian International Health issues as part of their specific professional qualification.
  • To provide continuous learning opportunities to alumni of German health-related study programmes.
  • To provide opportunities for German-South East Asian consortium and for regional professional networking.
  • To initiate contact and to provide support for networking between students from Germany and alumni presently working in SE Asia

Objectives: Translating research evidences on SDH into public health policy and action

  1. Conceptualizing SDH issues
  2. Understanding pathways from social determinants to health outcomes
  3. Collecting and analyzing data on SDH
  4. Developing case studies based on the existing
  5. Presenting research findings in the context of existing political structures in order to advocate for evidence-based SDH policy and action


  • Understanding of SDH and ways to support the research and action
  • Understanding knowledge transfer: turning research into action

    1. Country Case and Sharing Experience in SDH
  3. Modul III: Study Visit for understanding SDH
  4. Modul IV: Research related to SDH and Acter 2015
    1. Research method: Quantitative and qualitativeImplementation of quantitative and qualitative research
    2. Social epidemiology
    3. Case study building (research question, data accessing, data interpretation and data presenting)
  5. Modul V: Policy making related to SDH
    1. Communicating with policy makers and stakeholders: brief policy and advocacy
    2. Setting an agenda: Lobbying and negotiating
    3. Research into policy
    4. Policy and evaluation
  6. Modul VI Communication for presenting research to policy makers

Learning Methods

The winter school will be composed of lectures, seminars, field trip, presentations, tutorials, group work and self-directed learning. A participatory approach to learning will be followed with preparation of case studies based on alumni's experiences.


Course will be conducted in English


Senior lecturers from Germany and from the hosting countries - Indonesia


All participants will receive a certificate jointly signed by the participating institutions.

Course Fee

The course cost is Rp. 2,500,000 includes seminar kit, module and meals.
